Kamloops has a vibrant arts community represented in both professional and emerging art galleries and displays throughout the city, amateur and professional theatre and music festivals, as well as established and emerging arts and culture organizations and events held annually.
Our public venues are home to many large concerts and cultural events each year. Major recording artists, theatre companies and high profile speakers routinely make Kamloops part of their tour. Cirque du Soleil first performed in Kamloops in 2008 and reporting better than anticipated community response and “exceptional venue management” in Kamloops, have announced their return to Kamloops, with Alegria in September 2010.
The Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc culture is respected and celebrated in our community. Each year, First Nations culture is honoured at the biggest powwow in British Columbia when the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc (Kamloops First Nation) hosts the Kamloopa Pow Wow. This two day event attracts First Nations singers, dancers, artists, and performers from across Western Canada and the United States – and welcomes all Kamloops residents and visitors to participate in the celebration.
