Grants & Funding

Tournament Capital Grant

Only amateur sports organizations/individuals are eligible. Events must utilize services/facilities within the City of Kamloops. For two championships held for the same sport on the same date (i.e. boys & girls tournaments), then that event is eligible for one grant only.

The maximum amount allocated provided funds are available, will be:

Regional Tournament *(participants from the Interior) - $200
Provincial Tournament (participants from BC) - $500
Western Canadian Tournament (participants from BC, AB, SK & MB) - $1,000
National Tournament (participants from Canada) - $1,500
Invitational Tournament (participants from out of town) - $1500

* Regional Tournaments must consist of a minimum of four teams, including a host Kamloops team, and a minimum of 50 participants. The tournament winner must advance to Provincial level competition.

Please Note: If applying for a Provincial, Western Canadian or National grant the application must include a letter, on letterhead, from the governing sport body confirming the event as a bona-fide championship. If no documentation is provided an Invitational Tournament Capital Grant will be issued.

Tournament Capital grants will be approved by the Tournament Capital Grant Committee. Grants will be reviewed and approved for payment on a quarterly basis. Applicants should apply within three months of event date. Any additional information which you feel will assist the Tournament Capital Grant Committee may be attached.

BC Summer Games Sport Development Grant

The Kamloops 2006 BC Summer Games Board of Directors is pleased to announce that a legacy of $100,000 will remain in the community as a result of a budget surplus from staging the BC Summer Games in July, 2006.

The BC Summer Games Sport Development Grant will be available to local coaches, officials and sport organizations interested in furthering their knowledge in their respective areas. Examples may include: a Level III coach pursuing Level IV certification; an Umpire taking training to learn to instruct other Umpires; a sport organization presenting a high-profile "Keynote Speaker" that might be of value to numerous individuals.

The interest earned on the balance will provide the annual grant and will grow each subsequent year, "giving back" to the sport leaders in our community for years to come. Reviews are held quarterly.

KidSport Kamloops Fund

This fund provides children and youth between the ages of 6 and 18 years who are in need of financial assistance for an opportunity to participate in sports in Kamloops.

KidSport Funds will be utilized for sports uniforms, safety gear/equipment required for sport, and sport registration fees that are outside of the Parks & Recreation Activity Guide. For example: baseball leagues, gymnastic clubs, track and field clubs, hockey, and swim clubs. Annual awards will range up to $400, depending on the nature of the application. Award maximums are per person per year.

Winter Games Legacy Fund

Winter Games Legacy Fund Grants are to cover circumstances where a person or group advances beyond local competition, or is recruited to a provincial or nationally ranked team.

Grants will be reviewed and paid on a quarterly basis. Maximum of ONE grant per calendar year. Qualifying events, if applicable, must have taken place within the previous three months. Applicants/organizations must be a resident in Kamloops. The maximum amount allocated, provided funds are available, will be $150 for individuals and $300 for groups. If funds are limited, priority may be given to youth applicants.

Proof of qualification to advanced level of competition
Completed application form
Detailed statement of income and expenses (proposed or actual) for attending this event (on attached form).

Note: Granting is subject to availability of funds from the Winter Games Legacy Fund Grant as provided in the City of Kamloops Annual Budget.
